Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Go though my Vietnam travel tips and I am sure it will help you prepare well for your trip to Vietnam.

7 things you need to know before visiting Vietnam

1. Apply for your visa –

Apply for a letter of admission from the Vietnamese Embassy. There are various companies that you can apply through. I used and they sent me a letter within 2-3 days of application.2. Once received, print the letter3. Print the visa application form online and fill it out4. Prepare recent x2 passport photos5. Exchange your currency before you fly as this is the currency you have to pay for your visa with at the airportMake sure all of the above is in your hand luggage on arrival at the airport as the visa process comes before baggage collection.

2. Travel vaccinations –

Decide for yourself what you feel comfortable with but I would advise ensuring you’re covered for the basics at the very least.

3. Get ready to bargain –

Try out your bargaining skills here. You may need to try this almost every where, in parlour, stand alone shops, markets, etc.

4. Cab –

There are official taxi companies in all major cities, all of which are very cheap and use a fair meter system. To avoid scam, do not get in a taxi standing near tourist spots. As a rule of thumb, always try to flag down an official city taxi. Wait time in too long.

5. Intercity travel –

Sleeper buses are your best bet here for intercity travels. You can book the buses from any booking office / travel agent you stumble across, and only need to allow 1 day’s notice. If budget isn’t an issue or you’re very tight for time, flying is the best option.

6. Wi-Fi is everywhere –

You will have fantastic Wi-Fi here in all cafés, restaurants, hostels and hotels. They will allow you to use it for free.

7. Your stay at Hostels vs Hotels –

You can choose for plenty of Hotels and Hostels available through out the country.
